Product Descriptions
Process Overview:
I write product descriptions for e-commerce with a value-first approach: benefits rather than features, and stories rather than essays. I emphasize how the products enhance the life of the user, rather than describe using its ‘bells & whistles’.
My descriptions are written with the product’s target audience in mind, and tailored to fit the format of however the information is being presented. Whether the product is being featured on its home website, on amazon, on a google shopping ad, or in an Instagram story, I have a strong ability to edit & adapt across platforms.
The Granville Island Pet Treatery
A sample from a set of 83 product descriptions for e-commerce, and 28 coordinating videos for Amazon. The client had existing product copy, but felt it needed more ‘love’, so I conducted extensive research into the ingredients, product benefits, & target audience to produce a collection of descriptions that delight consumers and allow the company to rank well on search engines.
DiggsCo Toys
I helped an artist & toymaker-craftsman, Scott Diggs Underwood, bring his resin art toys to market by writing the copy for product descriptions, setting up & configuring a Wix site, and creating custom images for e-commerce. I wrote the individualized descriptions (below each picture) by adapting the artist’s vision & description of the characters, refining the overall story direction for this toy ‘universe’, and adding my own creative spin. I also wrote the product info section, which required confirmation on many finer details to ensure accuracy and alignment with the expectations of the art-toy market audience.
